Tennis elbow is a common condition in many patients regardless of whether they are athletes or overuse the area with work.
How do we fix it?
Tennis elbow can have several symptoms and most of the common ones we see include:
- Slowly and gradually becomes more painful
- Activity is painful, especially activities involving quick movements
- Feels better with rest but returns upon activity
- Generally painful in the elbow but can affect the forearm and biceps as well
- Gripping movements are painful
How do we assess tennis elbow?
A thorough history is always where we start followed by a physical exam. Our doctor will palpate the muscles associated with tennis elbow to search for any tension or trigger points that may be causing pain. We will also take your wrist and forearm through several motions to ensure we know which muscles are affecting the area the most.
How do we treat tennis elbow at Movement Cube?
Like most injuries, we tend to triage the area with a joint, soft tissue, and motor control component. As far as the joint, we will assess the elbow and wrist to ensure there is proper motion there but we will also work our way further up the chain to the shoulder, neck, and midback. Several soft tissue therapies can help with tennis elbow that may include but are not limited to Myofascial release, IASTM, Kinesiotaping, Low-level laser therapy, dry needling, etc. Once we have freed up more pain-free range of motion we will utilize rehabilitative exercises to make sure the increased range stays open and pain-free.
